Sunshine Coast Paddle Board Festival

As we mentioned months ago, our season is all about SUP and we are planning for another event this  coming weekend.

Join us for the Sunshine Coast Paddle Board Festival at beautiful Porpoise Bay Provincial Park THIS Sunday July 12th from 9 am - 2pm

This event is hosted by Kokatat and Werner Paddles dealer, Alpha Adventures located in Sechelt, BC.

Demos and Clinics – $8 per person gets you unlimited access to demo all boards and clinics (based on availability).

The race is an additional $15 entry fee but remember, proceeds go to charity!

Schedule of Events -

09:00am- Festival Begins- demos available throughout the morning and some in the afternoon where board availability permits.

09:30am- SUP fitness clinic – 30 minutes

10:00am- Basic Paddle Strokes Clinic- 30 minutes

11:30am- Rec Course Racers meet at tent

12:00pm- Rec Course Race begins

1:00 pm- Sprint / Kids Race *** (If there is enough interest)

1:30 pm- Awards Ceremony and Prize Draw

2:00pm- Festival Ends- have a great afternoon!

We will be providing gear from Kokatat and Werner Paddles so look for our booths, come try some gear and say hello.

The Reel Paddling Film Festival is coming to the Fraser Valley!!

The Reel Paddling Film Festival is coming to Abbotsford, BC for one night only, Friday March 14th.

Sponsored by Western Canoeing & Kayaking and Valhalla Pure Outfitters, the festival will be shown at the University of the Fraser Valley, directions HERE.  

This year’s event features 3 hrs of paddling films short-listed for the World Tour, including festival category winners.  Audiences can expect to see a variety of hairy whitewater action, sea kayakers exploring remote coastlines, international river travel films, motivating environmental documentaries, and hilarious short films capturing the lighter side of paddling life.

Tickets are $12 at the door, and $10 in advance.  Advance tickets also available at Valhalla Pure Outfitters.

SUP Events and River Clean Ups - it's a busy September!

I won't lie, I am looking forward to Winter :)

The fall is a busy time for Nikki Rekman Sales, wrapping up road travels, end of season events, helping prepare our dealers for the 2014 season and the BC Rivers Day River Clean Up!

This weekend we are stoked to support local dealer and SUP Community leader, Deep Cove Canoe and Kayak Centre at the Board the Fjord SUP Race.  Please come out and visit the Werner Paddles tent, see what's new for 2014 and better yet demo our paddles.

 On Sunday September 29th it is BC Rivers Day/World Rivers Day and I encourage all of you to get involved in activities in your community.  If you live in the lower mainland of BC please come out to Chilliwack and support the Chilliwack Vedder River Clean Up Society.  Nikki Rekman Sales (I'm on the board of directors) will be there lending a hand and we hope you will join us.  We are actually looking for some extra volunteers to help with set up and clean up so if that's you please contact me.  Many generous businesses have donated prizes for the day so maybe you will be a lucky winner.

Meet at the Chilliwack Fish and Games Club House (48685 Chilliwack Lake Road). Registration begins at 8:30am. The river clean-up will take place from 9:30am to Noon, followed by a volunteer appreciation BBQ, entertainment and draw prizes.

SUP the South Event with Werner Paddles THIS Weekend

Join us and Werner Paddles at the SUP the South event THIS Saturday in beautiful Naramata, BC.  This event is hosted by Werner Paddles dealer, Sun n Sup.

 

Registration:7:30am - 8:15am at Manitou Park

Start 9 am : 5km Naramata-Summerland-Naramata
Start 2 pm : 10km Downwinder Penticton to Naramata (or reverse depending on the wind).
 

Werner Paddles will be providing the Board Shuttle.  It will be available for boards starting at 12-1pm.

Help Save Callaghan Creek: Another Canadian Navigable Waterway Under Threat!

I got an email recently from Ryan Bayes, Kokatat Watersports Wear, Jackson Kayak, Seals Sprayskirts and Werner Paddles dealer with Western Canoeing and Kayaking about spreading the word about Callaghan Creek near Whistler, BC.  Looks like another navigable waterway is under threat and we need to get involved as paddlers and avid outdoors people..

Last week we learned that Callaghan Creek (the most classic of classic Whistler Creek runs) has been staked for hydro development by Inergex. The section they would like to de-water is probably the most run class 4/5 piece of whitewater in BC. The local paddlers are very passionate about protecting this creek.

On July 20, 2013 the annual Callaghan Creek Race will be taking place. We feel that making this event a big one could go a long ways towards protecting this river, or should it come to it, help mitigate the impacts. In my dealings with Nav. Waters Canada and the Environmental Assessment Office having a large number of user days (or events) on a  waterway is priceless when it comes time to mitigate.
