Update from the Henry Brothers Expedition

We were super excited to get word via email from Russell and Graham last week with an update on the Henry Brothers Expedition.  The guys are on an EPIC adventure paddling from BelĂ©m, Brazil to Florida, USA.  Check out the route map here.

"Graham and I are on the North coast of the Dominican Republic (technically out of the Caribbean) waiting for a weather window to shoot across to Turks and Caicos - the biggest crossing of the trip."

"It will be 150 kilometers of paddling with winds on our right, will take us anywhere from 24 to 30 hours, and we are aiming for an island smaller than a breadbox. Oh dear."

"to summarize the trip to date:  It's been absolutely phenomenal. Obviously the bar for good times was set pretty low after what we experienced in the isolated sections of South America... But in all reality, we couldn't have asked for better paddling, better friends, and better comradarie with fellow boatmen."

Turks and Caicos are roughly 575 miles south-east from Florida, their final destination.

We will be praying for favorable weather for the guys and continued safe travels.  I am looking forward to seeing them in the flesh when they return to Vancouver Island!!!!!

p.s. I am not sure the guys will look like this anymore...stronger, thinner and hairier perhaps ;)

And the Adventure Begins...

Got this great note from Graham Henry of the Henry Brother's Expedition this past weekend.  Can't wait to hear all about this EPIC, EPIC trip.  Paddle safely guys!!

Hey Nikki!

Just wanted to touch base and say one more thank you before we leave for Seattle tomorrow evening!

We are still working on the never ending nightmare of Brazilian customs but are making some headway and hoping to get our boats pretty quickly upon arrival. It looks like we are going to have a warm welcome in Belem though as some members of the Brazilian Canoe Federation are going to meet us at the airport and even give us a place to stay. After sorting out customs and receiving the boats, we are ready and raring to go. All the gear is in place and we are feeling strong and comfortable in the boats.

The Werner paddles and the Kokatat gear have been great! We are feeling really great with the paddles and the PFDs are more and more comfortable each day.

We're also getting some good press on some local TV and print news, Canoe and Kayak Magazine, and Coast Mountain Culture!

Anyways, just wanted to give an update and say thanks again. We really couldn't have gotten this far without your help.

Cheers

Graham

Lots of gear!!!

Paddling from the Amazon River to Florida - An Update from the Henry Brothers

Here is an update from the Henry Brother's, Graham and Russell.

We are super stoked for these guys.  What an adventure they will be on!!!

It's starting to warm up outside and the snow is melting making room for more paddling and paddling thoughts. I have 3 weeks of work left on Patrol up here at Mount Washington and Graham has 3 or 4 weeks till his exams are done at UBCO. We're really pumped to meet up and get down to business at the end of the month, all throughout May, and right up till we fly. We've booked our flights for June 10th out of Seattle, so pretty much eleven weeks till go time.

We're excited to let you know that we're set up to get some great media exposure. I think you were already aware of Canoe and Kayak Magazine being on board with guaranteed coverage on their website and hopefully print post trip. We have also now added Coast Mountain Culture Magazine to the team. They're a West Coast magazine based out of BC's Lower Mainland that brings incredible stories, spectacular photos, appeal and coastal/mountain vibes to the majority of BC and the Pacific Northwest. They're really cool guys. In fact, a graphic media designer has already come up with a sort of 'Good Luck from CMC' quarter page piece that also lists our sponsors(including Kokatat, Werner, and Nikki Rekman Sales) for their next issue that comes out in May.

In other news, we received all our gear from Kokatat, and our paddles from Werner and love it all. I went for a paddle out to Hornby Island the other day with my new Kalliste and felt phenomenal. Thanks so much.

Right on, just thought I'd give you the lowdown on what's going on!

Cheers,

Russell
